My father had been a minister of the church and a physician, but when Christian Science first touched my thought it found me with neither religion nor health. I questioned both systems during my early years of girlhood, and finding no satisfactory answers I turned away from the church in which I had been reared. Needless to say, I investigated everything of a religious nature that came within my reach; but having nothing better to pin my faith on, I relied on materia medica even after I felt that there was nothing in it save as an "aid to nature," which was the way my father's wavering faith expressed it, after many years of fruitless attempt to help mankind.

How I rejoice to say that Christian Science has given me both religion and health! The physical healings were of a chronic disorder of the bowels, one physician saying there was a partial paralysis of the lower bowel, a condition which brought on a complication that nearly ended my life; instantaneous healing of defective vision, with which one of the best-known oculists in this country said I had been born, adding that, as there was no remedy, it would only grow worse as I grew older; headaches; bronchial and throat trouble; and a constant susceptibility to colds. The mental and moral regeneration has been going on ever since; and as the outward manifestation is only a revealing of what is taking place mentally, I have rejoiced in nearly perfect health ever since my first healing. Any discordant condition has been quickly overcome by the Word of Truth, and further spiritual understanding has ensued as a result of the experience. All this has made me understand more clearly what Paul must have meant when he said, "I take pleasure in infirmities."

This redemptive truth, which has brought about such a wonderful change in my life, has extended its beneficent influence throughout my immediate family, as well as to members of my parental home. It has brought a sister from the pit of despair when everything else had failed her; my mother has been healed of kidney trouble and palpitation of the heart; my father was healed after being doomed to die by two physicians, who said he had softening of the brain; my husband was healed of neuritis; and our little son has known no other remedy than divine Mind for any discordant condition, and feels that if the Christian Science hymns are sung to him it is enough to drive all error away. Father-Mother God is ever present to him, and is constantly referred to as the only protection in every way.
