There is much more in Christian Science than merely...
Call
There is much more in Christian Science than merely saying to patients that they are "simply to have faith," and that they will be sick no longer. Christian Science helps and heals many who have only a little faith in spiritual means to begin with,—that is, enough to lead them to turn to it for help. Christian Science is much more than faith cure. The healing in Christian Science is effected through the spiritual understanding of God and of man in God's likeness. The beginner's understanding increases as he continues to study and apply its teachings.
Christian Scientists do not speak of Mrs. Eddy as "Mother Eddy;" and there is no reason why others should do so. The work of the revered Leader of the Christian Science movement has brought countless blessings to thousands of people, and she is surely entitled to simple courtesy from all thoughtful persons.
Some time ago, while on a voyage on the Pacific in a stormy sea, I had an opportunity to make use of Christian Science, and it kept me entirely free from seasickness. I had good reason to be thankful to God for Mrs. Eddy's work in making it possible for me to use the simple rule of Christian healing at that time of need. I mention this because it has a bearing on the item published in your paper. It proved the value of an understanding of Christian Science under such circumstances.
