Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1924

For the State of Indiana.

(April 1, 1924, to September 30, 1924)

The first duty of a Committee on Publication requires the careful scanning of every publication issued within the state. This work is being faithfully cared for by Assistant Committees on Publication,—each for the locality in which he resides. This continuous activity, with the consequent dealings with newspapers, has established and is maintaining a growing respect for Christian Science among newspaper men, and is developing a more open friendliness therefor among many newspapers. There is little change to be reported in the attitude of religious magazines. These have continued to publish distorted views and misrepresentations of Christian Science, persistently refusing to publish corrections. There were seventeen letters of correction written and submitted to all classes of publications during the period covered by this report. Of these, four were submitted to religious magazines, all of which were refused publication. Two were submitted to medical journals, one of which was published. Of the eleven sent to newspapers, all were published except one, and this exception was due, not to the unfriendliness of the newspaper, but to the desire of the editor to close an incident which had occurred without his knowledge during his absence from the city.
