I became interested in Christian Science about sixteen...
I became interested in Christian Science about sixteen years ago simply through being impressed with the calm demeanor of a Christian Scientist with whom I had become acquainted, and who told me something of his experiences in the solitudes of Wyoming, where he had been a prospector. After attending a few Christian Science services, I became convinced that this was the religion for which I had longed. Early religious training in two evangelical churches in England had long before been found inadequate to satisfy my spiritual aspirations, and I had drifted into atheism. All the doubts and confusion arising from such a mental condition were quickly and permanently removed as the truth about God and man unfolded in my consciousness through study of the Bible in the new light flooded upon its precious pages by our beloved Leader's textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other writings.
I had previously served abroad in the British army, and had been invalided home from Aden and discharged as unfit for further service. My chief trouble had been malarial fever. I came to California convinced that I was to go through life subject to periodical fevers and ague, for they had been pretty thoroughly drilled into my consciousness before leaving home. As these fevers, accompanied by severe headaches, came upon me, I asked for Christian Science treatment; and it was not long before it was noticeable that as a result of these treatments the attacks became less frequent and violent; and finally they ceased altogether. I was also healed of smoking, swearing, and other bad habits; and a few years ago an acute attack of ptomaine poisoning was overcome almost instantaneously. Peculiar personal traits were not so quickly removed, because of lack of attention; but of late I have seen the necessity of overcoming them, and am indeed grateful to find them being replaced with a growing sense of equanimity, as I apply myself to the task of casting out whatever tends to becloud the full vision of perfection in the man of God's creating.
It is with a heart full of gratitude to God, the one creator, to Christ Jesus, the Founder of Christianity, and to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, that I add my testimony to the steady stream of praise flowing heavenward for the blessings being bestowed on humanity by the truth as taught in Christian Science.
