Signs of the Times

[From Morgenavisen, Bergen, Norway, Oct. 25, 1924 (translation)]

Let us make out of life as much as possible.... The work which we are called upon to perform does not need wealth, position, or grand capacities, but a kind, selfless spirit, and a strong volition. If a lamp is kept always burning it may be a medium to lighten many other lamps, even though small it may be. The reach of our influence may seem poor, our capacities insignificant, our occasions few, and our efficiency limited; but wonderful possibilities are yet before us, when we faithfully use the occasions which come to us in our own homes. If we open our hearts and our homes to the divine Principle of life, then we may be like pipes through which streams of life-giving power flow. From our homes healing streams will flow out, calling forth life, beauty, and fruitfulness, where now it is barren and desolate.
