Examiner
The city health officer, in ruling that a certain rest home, so called, conducted by a Christian Scientist, should be regarded as a hospital, is alleged to have said, "But Christian Science does not recognize disease, and so does not recognize hospitals, as such, and calls them rest homes." The statement that "Christian Science does not recognize disease" is a complete misapprehension of its teaching and practice. Christian Science accepts the Scripture that man is made in the image and likeness of God, and therefore is perfect and eternal, including no discord nor disease. Manifestly, then, it follows that in Truth there is no disease; but Christian Science does recognize disease as a mortal condition to be rejected and destroyed in accordance with God's law, in the same manner that Christ Jesus destroyed it. A mathematician, while understanding that the science of mathematics includes no errors, does not deny or disregard the fact that mistakes occur in computing mathematical problems. Indeed, the mistake must first be recognized before it can be corrected.
