For six years I have known of Christian Science and have...
For six years I have known of Christian Science and have received from it numerous blessings. From the very start of my study of it God has been my only physician, and the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy my only remedy.
For more than twelve years I had been ill, and constantly under the care of physicians. It began with a lung trouble which lasted nearly five years, during which period I was many times very near death. Then I was stricken with pains which the doctors called neuritis. I suffered a great deal, gaining from time to time only slight relief of short duration. The years passed, and my condition grew worse and worse. I could use my arms less and less. I was bent, miserable, and discouraged, for all hope of healing had left me. Then the doctor who had cared for me a very long time told me that he could do nothing more for me. He advised me to go to Switzerland to consult a specialist and to follow his directions at any cost, for I was threatened with paralysis. As I already had had several physicians, even one renowned specialist, and had tried all kinds of baths, electric massages, inoculations, many material remedies, and much rubbing, his advice gave me little encouragement, for after so many years of suffering and disappointment my faith in doctors had become very weak.
However, I went to Switzerland with the firm resolve to try once more—certain that it would be the last and that, if I were not successful, there would be nothing else for me but death. During my trip I heard Christian Science spoken of for the first time by a very dear lady, whose words of love and truth touched me deeply and revived my hope and faith in a God of love, who wills only good for His children. This dear lady lent me some books on Christian Science, which I read with much care and joy, for I felt I had finally found the truth.
