Precious volume, born of our loved Leader's
Inspired life! A multitude made free,
A globe-circling host of grateful readers—
This year of grace, observe thy jubilee.
Of what momentous import to mankind
Thine advent in that humble upper room
Signs multifold give proof,—to those not blind,—
Foretelling liberty, and spelling doom
Of dark oppression's sway. Blest "little book,"
How mighty thy clear voice, thundering thy call
To waken earth-bound men—the blast that shook
False matter's base. Great preacher! unto all
Proclaiming safety, not alone from sin,
But dire disease, thus meeting the ideal
Our Master left in his command to win
Hearts for His kingdom: both to preach and heal.
Thine accents fearless, eloquent, now reach
A congregation vast, in lordly fane
And chapel low, on far-off lonely beach
And desert: worshipers on land and main,
In cot and hall—where'er minds ready view
Truth openly, there comest thou with cheer
And cure for mortal woes. A pastor true,
We own thee: greeting saddened homes with dear
Words of holy comfort; guiding the flock
Like a shepherd; gently stilling our dread;
Ever at hand with thy "Key" to unlock
The Bible storehouse, rich with heaven's bread.
Strong liberator of sin-darkened thought,
Hold on thy course yet other fifty years—
Yea, to time's hastening end; till thou hast brought
Freedom world-wide, and Love's reign full appears.
