Ten years ago I began the study of Christian Science for physical healing. At the time, I had no intention of leaving my church, of which I was very fond. I liked reading religious matter, and a friend gave me a book of Unitarian sermons. I believe this paved the way for Christian Science, for until that time I was very much prejudiced against all nonconformists, having been brought up a strict churchwoman, believing in forms and ceremonies. However, this book interested me greatly, and I began to change my thoughts. So, when it was suggested that I should read Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I made no objection, being in great need of healing from biliousness, indigestion, and constipation of long standing. I suffered so much for years from these complaints that life was made miserable for me, and I often wished to die. Long journeys upset me; still, I was obliged to take them if I wanted to visit my relatives.
It was after one of these journeys that my sister lent me Science and Health. The book fascinated me. I did not understand it, but I felt it contained the truth. I have never been without a copy since. From that day I was a changed woman. Not that I had an instantaneous healing: I do not know when the troubles left me; but gradually, with the help of practitioners, they disappeared. I can take a journey now and enjoy it. I do not fear food, but eat what I like. I am very grateful for all this; and also for knowing there is only good for us, there is no evil.
I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for making it so clear that Life is God, and God is ever present Love. When claims of evil come I have no fear, for I know that in reality there is nothing but God and His perfect creation. I can do nothing of myself, and God's work is done. I can only accept God's love, and try to deserve it by living rightly. I have been healed of many other conditions which it would take too long to tell about. I am truly grateful for Christian Science. — (Mrs.) Rosetta M. Clarke, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
