The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Wellington, New Zealand (Second Church).

Lecturer: Algernon Hervey Bathurst; introduced by Reuben McCleery, who said:—

Over nineteen centuries ago Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is this truth which the world to-day, faced with so many problems and so much dissension, so greatly needs to govern its activities; the truth which will free it of its burdens and substitute for the heaviness of sadness and grief in the hearts of many "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." The truth referred to by Jesus is the understanding of God and His creation, whereby the reality of all things is revealed, and man is seen to be the image and likeness of God, spiritual, just, upright, harmonious, perfect; and what is written in the first chapter of Genesis concerning this creation, "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," is then found to be true.
