[Original testimony in German]
In 1920, my sixteen-year-old brother met with an accident
In 1920, my sixteen-year-old brother met with an accident. He was then an apprentice at a locksmith's. In the evening while sitting on a box, he noticed blood on the floor. He could not understand where the blood came from, until he felt a tension in his foot. He then noticed that the nail of the winch handle of the motor he was operating had become loose, catching and entangling the leather shoe string. The nail went through the shoe and stocking, made three large holes in the right foot and pulled several sinews apart. My brother stopped the motor himself, but he could not disentangle the sinews alone. He was then taken to a doctor, who removed the damaged sinews.
Upon the doctor's orders my brother was taken to the hospital the following day. I myself took him there in an ambulance. Here the doctor told me at once that the situation was critical, and that the foot would have to be amputated. However, my parents and my brother would not consent to this. We had no sense of fear from the moment the accident happened. We had a dear Christian Science practitioner begin treatment right away. After six weeks my brother was dismissed from the hospital. He had had no medical treatment; the foot was not amputated; and the doctors were surprised at the quick and good healing. My brother walks without using a cane, although the doctor removed the sinews.
For this blessing we are all very grateful to God and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy; also, to the dear practitioner. It is our endeavor to obtain a greater understanding of Christian Science.
