Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1924
For the Province of Alberta, Canada.
Nineteen corrections of newspaper articles have been written during the year, and all except one have been accepted and published. On account of the growing interest in spiritual healing, frequent references to this subject have been made from the pulpit, and reports of these utterances have occasionally found their way into the press. When Christian Science has been referred to erroneously in the course of these published statements, such references have afforded the opportunity to give a simple explanation of Christian Science, designed to correct the error and to make plain that Christian Science is the method of healing employed by Christ Jesus. It is interesting to note that a number of the critics have admitted the healing efficacy of Christian Science, proving that, even under such circumstances, truth will make itself known. Some of the corrections have been designed to defend Christian Scienctists from unjust attack and misrepresentation.
It has been necessary to deal with various other phases of imposition and injustice, and each instance has been dealt with in the manner that has proved to be wise. In one instance a person in a rural district, who was circulating literature that was unjust to our Leader and to Christian Science, expressed regret when the injustice of doing so was drawn to her attention by the assistant for that district. She promised to discontinue circulating the unjust literature, and also accepted and promised to read "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur, which was sent to her, along with "The People's Idea of God" by Mrs. Eddy. In this way error is being checked and an opportunity afforded to impart a better understanding of what Christian Science is.
