The Lectures

London, England (First Church).—The following remarks were made by Charles Delacour le Maistre when introducing Algernon Hervey Bathurst, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience:—

Some people are still apt to look upon Christian Science as merely another system of physical healing. It is a system of physical healing, the most wonderful the world has ever known; but it is the Christ-healing brought again to human apprehension through the consecrated labors of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; and being the Christ-healing it is unlimited in its application and beneficent effects. In these days when the whole structure of society is being shaken to its very foundations, and people are looking in all directions for comfort and for help and courage in dealing with their everyday problems, it is an undoubted fact that the manner in which we approach these problems, with confidence or with fear, depends almost, if not entirely, on our concept of the "great First Cause," which most people unite in calling God. Now the Bible says, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace." Christian Science, as all its students gratefully acknowledge, teaches the profound import of these words and of the blessings which flow from even a small understanding of the dynamic power of the promises made in the Bible.
