On page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

On page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path,—the path which leads to the house built without hands 'eternal in the heavens.'" The small understanding I have been able to gain of this divine All-power has so changed my whole life and brought so much happiness, joy, and peace into it that I am sending this testimony in the hope that it may help some weary traveler on the road.

There is so much for which to be grateful that I hardly know what to pick out as being most helpful. I think, how-ever, I feel most gratitude for the change that has been wrought in our home. From a manifestation of acute lack, limitation, and sickness, with all their attendant fear and friction, it is gradually being changed into what home should be—heaven, or "harmony; ... government by divine Principle" (Science and Health, p. 587). There is still much to be done, but what has already been accomplished has been a most wonderful revelation of the power of good to overcome all phases of evil.

I have had many physical healings. Very soon after hearing of Christian Science I was left almost completely deaf as the result of a heavy cold. This frightened me a good deal at the time, more especially as my work consisted of taking down letters and speeches from dictation and I found I was making serious mistakes. After a little while I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, which was very lovingly given. Among other things, the practitioner said to me that to be obedient is to hear, and I saw that to be obedient to the fact that "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him" was to be in possession of all one's faculties—not one of them could be lost. The next morning, however, when I went to my work, I still could hardly hear at all. When sent for by my employer I felt tempted for a moment to think there was no use in going, but I immediately put this thought from me, took my notebook and went, knowing that to be obedient was to hear. The first sentence I did not hear at all, and then it was just as though some one lifted the whole thing from me. I could hear perfectly, and have done so ever since. This healing occurred about six or seven years ago.
