Christian Science came to me soon after a loved one had...

Christian Science came to me soon after a loved one had passed on, and when I was witness to the suffering of another loved one. I was asked to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to see if I thought it would benefit the sufferer. When I had read a few chapters I was asked what I thought of it, and said, "It is too good to be true." Since then I have learned that in Science only the good is true. The wonderful "scientific statement of being" on page 468 was pointed out to me; and when I had in a degree glimpsed its meaning, the realization came that here was the answer to my prayer of many years to know something of what man really is.

As is usual when one grasps even in the smallest degree the great import of our Leader's discovery, healings took place. Stomach trouble, chronic bilious headaches, malarial fever, rheumatism of the throat, injury to the ligaments of one of my legs (which had never healed, but which had left the normal use of that leg very uncertain), and other ailments were permanently healed through the reading of the textbook. Later there came testing times, proving times, when but for the knowledge of what had already been proved to me I might have been overcome with discouragement. I had to learn that while "a grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth," as Mrs. Eddy writes on page 449 of Science and Health, the remainder of that sentence is also true, that "more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." I have learned that Christian Science never fails when understandingly applied. It is the ever present God-power made manifest. Not all healings have been instantaneous; but when enough of fear, or self-will, or self-justification has been got rid of, the healings have come.

Christian Science has been my only physician and guide for nine years, and through it I have found more peace and true happiness than worldly success has ever brought. "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it," we read in Psalms; and so I have found worldly building vain. During the first few years of my study of Christian Science I traveled a great deal, and visited many practitioners in my desire to learn more of this great truth. I am deeply grateful for the loving patience accorded me always, and the great help I have received from practitioners. I am inexpressibly grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having given to the world her great revelation of Truth, so that all mankind may avail themselves of its benefits and find true being.
