Surely I cannot longer withhold my offering of gratitude...

Surely I cannot longer withhold my offering of gratitude for Christian Science; for only as we express gratitude for the blessings we have received, do we make way for the reception of more.

When I was a little girl of twelve or thirteen I became very ill, and I can recall how feverish and wretched I felt. My mother asked a Christian Science practitioner to treat me. She came to see me late in the afternoon. I felt too ill to notice what she or any one else said; and after she left I fell sound asleep, sleeping perhaps two hours. Then I awoke, feeling perfectly well.

When I was in college an epidemic of mumps claimed me as a victim. I immediately asked a practitioner to treat me, but the authorities hurried me off to the infirmary. The sentence for all sent there for any of the current diseases was two weeks at least. The practitioner continued to work for me, and I did much real studying in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Medical attention was not urged upon me. I did not have to stay in bed, and suffered no pain or discomfort except the distress which the fear and chagrin in my consciousness caused me. It was Friday night when I went to the infirmary, and the following Monday afternoon I left, released by a doctor who examined me and pronounced me well.
