Changeless Love

"The sun is not affected by the revolution of the earth. So Science reveals Soul as God, untouched by sin and death."—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 310.

Now mortal men believe
The earth revolves;
In twilight gray
The light declines,
Then deeper shadows fall;
Night follows day.
And one by one the seasons, all
In a prescribed and definite order,
Have their way.
Yet all the while the steadfast sun,
With never varying strength, sends forth
Each warm, enlightening ray.
It changes not, though mortal sight
Sees summer, winter, storm, and night.

So God, revealed by Science, is untouched
By sin or death.
Love changes not; but when with mists of sense
Our eyes are dim,
And clouds of pain or sorrow seem to hem us in,
And shut us off from Him,
We still can say, and know,
Love does not make it so.
For Love, more constant than the changeless sun,
Which is but symbol of that greater Light,
Through all our human thought of time and space,
Of day and night,
Gives good, and good alone, alway.
