About twenty-two years ago Christian Science first came...
About twenty-two years ago Christian Science first came to my attention while residing in a large city in the Mississippi Valley. I was much impressed with the better citizens it was making of many formerly careless associates who had taken up its study; but while I attended the church services several times, still I failed to grasp consciously and of its teachings. Shortly after this experience, I was promoted by my employers, and later was promoted again. However, religion did not interest me seriously; and from my earlier childhood experiences it was quite hard for me to understand God as Love, because at the age of nine I was left without human parents or material home, which necessitated supporting myself at this early age. But through Christian Science I was to find God as my all.
Nearly fifteen years passed before I entered a Christian Science church again, though during this period I presented to many troubled friends throughout the country copies of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, never feeling that I needed Christian Science, as I was quite content with an abundance of every material means, success, and health that one could desire. It was not until later, when friends and all material possessions had been swept away, that I turned to Christian Science for help and received it.
I thank God for healing me of the cigarette and tobacco habit, the social liquor habit, and the need of glasses, and for a better understanding of God as Love. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for the completed work she has given to all mankind, and to God for giving her the ability to finish her great work for the Christian Science movement; also, to the many loving practitioners who everywhere, at all hours of the day and night, stand ever ready to help us. I am grateful for every activity of The Mother Church and its Board of Directors, and most grateful for membership in this church.
