Christian Science teaches that God is All; that God is...
Weekly Post
Christian Science teaches that God is All; that God is infinite good, infinite Life, Truth, Love, the only cause, Mind, the only creator, who made man in His own image and likeness, and who maintains that image and likeness; that, therefore, all that sin can possibly be is a false claim, or belief, that there is something apart from God, some death or denial of Life, some other cause, creator, or creation unlike God. This false claim, or mortal thought, is the only devil; and this description coincides with that given in the Scriptures, "He is a liar, and the father of it." Seeing mankind as born into and acquiescing in a false sense of life, it was not inconsistent for the Apostle Paul to write, "All have sinned." That the healing of sickness by the understanding of God can be the work of the devil was an argument used against Christ Jesus, who answered very conclusively that mankind must decide that for itself. Multitudes of sick and suffering ones have turned to Christian Science and found healing after all other methods have failed, and now rejoice in its compassionate message of "on earth peace, good will toward men."
When Christ Jesus found that his disciples depended on his personal presence, he said, "It is expedient for you that I go away." In accordance with this, Christian Scientists look for deliverance from all evil through a right apprehension of God, and find in the teaching of Christian Science a reasonable explanation of the "cross of Christ," which does not impugn God's love and justice. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, set forth this great and wonderful truth, and taught and practiced Christian healing in obedience to the commands of the Founder of Christianity, who bade his followers preach the gospel and heal the sick. Fifty-eight years ago, she discerned the spiritual truth which lay behind the "miracles" recorded in the Bible, namely, that God, good, is All, and consequently that disease is unreal, and was raised from what was supposed might be her deathbed. By the year 1883 many thousands of people had acknowledged and attested the blessings of this mental system of healing, and to-day Christian Science churches are to be found throughout the civilized world.
Thoughtful people are rejecting the belief that God can be glorified by the acceptance of incomprehensible theories about Him. The mission of the Christ, to-day as yesterday, is to destroy the works of the devil (evil) and to reveal the Father. This, Christian Science is doing by its teaching that God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, giving harmony and health.
