In 1910, I was taken ill with a very severe attack of heart disease. I had suffered from this trouble for many years. The attack took place while at my work. My employer, who was a Christian Scientist, came into the shop about this time and, as I have since learned, declared the truth for me as taught in Christian Science. He took me by the hand and raised me to my feet, repeating the "scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation, also found in the textbook (pp. 16, 17). I awakened from the faint, healed; and I have never since that time had any further trouble from that disease.
My employer gave me a German Herald each month for a year, and I passed the copies on to others in the house where I lived. Many of these people became subscribers to this periodical. I began to attend the church services, to read our literature, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and the Lesson-Sermon, my wife joining me in this.
Four years ago I had double pneumonia. I desired Christian Science treatment, but my wife became so fearful that she called in two physicians. At the end of ten days they gave me up as a hopeless case. I was in an almost unconscious condition. Within one hour, however, as a result of Christian Science treatment, I had gained enough strength to get out of bed and go into the next room and take a little nourishment. Within a few days I was able to sit on the roof of the apartment house in which I lived. In about three weeks I was back at my work, enjoying my full strength; and I have not lost a day from work since.
