I became interested in Christian Science thirteen years...
I became interested in Christian Science thirteen years ago. Since then it has been the support and comfort of my life, and I am happy and grateful to be able to help others.
I should like to share an experience which was a further proof to me that thought governs the body, reflecting on it harmony or disorder. Some months ago I had a chill accompanied by fever and sore throat. Through the application of the teachings of Christian Science a great improvement took place; but two or three days later, the trouble reappeared in the form of cough and irritation of the bronchial tubes. I treated myself further, and again felt better; but irritation in the throat continued. I sought the mental cause of this condition, which was revealed to me after a deep study of the beautiful verse, "The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness."
After I had read this wonderful text and had a talk with a dear Science friend (whom I thank very warmly for her help), the mental cause of this error was uncovered. It was a thought of indignation or resentment over what I imagined to be an injustice which some one had done me. While I thought I had forgiven it, I was making a reality of it; and as this false belief had not been destroyed or corrected, the recollection of this injury came back at times and kept up the cough and irritation. That was where the trouble lay; and I should like to say to those who are suffering, and whose healing seems to be delayed, Look to see if you are not entertaining thoughts of worry, sorrow, anguish, resentment, fear, or a tendency to criticism; look for the mental cause, for that is where the trouble is. For my part, when I was able to change this false belief by replacing it with the understanding of the reality of good and of evil's unreality, the physical trouble disappeared as my thought rose to the source of all good and happiness.
