I became interested in the study of Christian Science...

I became interested in the study of Christian Science about thirteen years ago, not because of any physical defect of my own, but because at that time my sister, then nine years old, had been pronounced by several physicians incurable, as a result of epilepsy, said to have been caused by chronic indigestion and bowel trouble. My parents heard of Christian Science through a friend; and as all other means had failed, they sought to investigate it as a cure for her. At first their faith was small, not having the understanding of how to "leave all for Christ," as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 9); but with loving and patient help from a practitioner my sister was healed in four years. At that time this seemed like a long time for one healing, but when we realized that during the four years many other healings had taken place, and that all the while we were gaining a little more understanding, it was with gratitude we realized her healing.

Previous to this healing I studied the Bible very diligently, but did so from a sense of duty. I did not understand what I read, and could not, therefore, use it in my daily needs, as I now do. However, I rejoice that through study and obedience, I can now testify to the good that has come to me in Christian Science. In my home the truth is a "very present help" in caring for my children. With the little understanding I have, and occasional calls for outside help, I have been able to overcome colds, croup, tonsillitis, and acute indigestion. I have found Christian Science a very efficient aid during pregnancy and childbirth, in allaying fear and pain so often prevalent at that time. I am very grateful for the trials I have had; they, indeed, have served as "proofs of God's care," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 66 of Science and Health.

My study of Christian Science has illumined the Scriptures and awakened in me a desire to study the Bible, because I find it interesting, and capable of meeting every need. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for the enlightenment I have received from reading Science and Health, and can say with her (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares." My greatest desire is to attain a better knowledge of this truth, that I may be able to help others out of pain and distress, as I have been helped.—(Mrs.)Margaret Zimmerman Newcomer, Hiawatha, Kans.
