My first healing took place about twelve years ago, while I was visiting in California. I had suffered since childhood from catarrh, and from what is known as a perforated eardrum, for which I had taken medical treatment for some time. Previous to my healing I was unable to taste or smell, and breathed with great difficulty. I was very much relieved after my first treatment in Christian Science; and in a short time the healing was complete. The fear of seasickness was overcome through absent treatment from a practitioner; and a sense of peace and protection has always been realized when travelling.
While I am thankful for these healings, I am more grateful for the spiritualization of thought which Mrs. Eddy refers to in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 442): "Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake." I am learning that when obedient to this divine law, I am protected from all harm. Indeed, I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her wonderful discovery, and to the kind practitioners who have helped me along the way; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; also for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school, and for our periodicals, which come to us each month, week, and day with their messages of Love.
