Christian Science came to me at a time when everything...
Christian Science came to me at a time when everything indeed seemed dark. We moved to this city about two years ago. I had not sat up all day for almost a year; and having left all my old friends, and being a complete stranger, I felt almost as though I had come to a prison. I had lost all faith in materia medica, had tried every medicine I had heard of, and had been under chiropractic treatment, — all to no avail. It seemed at times as if I should go insane.
Mrs. Eddy tells us, on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need;" and divine Love was leading me out of darkness into light. When we were settled in our new home, I found that our next-door neighbor was a Christian Scientist. Seeing my need, she told me what Christian Science had done for her, and said, "I know it will heal you." Christian Science has healed me of many things, among them stomach and liver trouble, and almost instantaneously of lumbago. For many years I had kept a maid to do the housework and all my sewing. I am now doing the housework, including most of the washing and ironing, for my family of five, something I had not been able to do for more than fifteen years. Added to this, I am taking care of five boarders, and doing my own sewing. Our little boy had been examined by a specialist, also by our family physician, both of whom pronounced an operation for adenoids necessary; but thanks to Christian Science and the work of a kind and loving practitioner, he was healed in a very short time.
I am so grateful for a better understanding of the Bible, and to know that God is, indeed, a help in time of need. I am grateful also to Mrs. Eddy, who was pure enough to discern and show us the way. My gratitude also extends to loving practitioners and friends who have been a help to me, and for the knowledge that the way will grow brighter and brighter each day.
