In gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy I desire to submit...
In gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy I desire to submit a testimony of physical healings which I have experienced at various times during the past five years. Through the advice of a friend I was led to take up the study of Christian Science to see if there was hope in it to help a member of our family, who was then quite ill. At a later period the member referred to was healed, with the help of a practitioner, of what the doctors pronounced tuberculosis of the lungs in its worst stages.
Six weeks after becoming interested in Christian Science I met with a severe accident. I had occasion to go to the cellar; and there being an obstruction on one of the steps, I was thrown with great force to the ground floor, striking my chest in such a manner that I was rendered speechless, also dislocating one arm at the elbow, forcing a ring into one of my hands and lacerating it, dislocating the large toe of one foot, and spraining the muscles and ankle of the other. With great difficulty I was able to get to the landing. I at once worked in Science to realize man's perfection; and my arm was healed. In the same manner my toe became normal again. I then asked divine Love to guide me to what was needed to complete the healing. I was led to page 393 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government. Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." I knew that this covered all, and kept reading until I fell asleep. I slept till morning, when I found the textbook on my chest where it had fallen when I went to sleep. When I arose and started to go downstairs the thought of the fall confronted me, and fear tried to manifest itself. I at once declared the truth, knowing that the
"Everlasting arms of Love
Are beneath, around, above,"
and that I could not fall. When halfway down the stairs I was completely healed. This was on a Sunday. I had visitors in the afternoon, and escorted them around the premises. I am grateful for this demonstration, because it brought to me what I had been seeking—more of that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."
I rejoice in the power of Truth to heal, as taught us by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its textbook, Mrs. Eddy. I have been healed of many physical ills, such as congestion of the lungs, acute neuralgia of fifteen years' standing, influenza, burns, colds, acute indigestion, floating kidney, which had persisted for twenty-six years, and many other troubles. Some of the healing work was done through the loving help of practitioners, some through my small understanding of the power and presence of the Word, some through the reading of the textbook. All the healings were not instantaneous, for my wrong thinking was not changed at once. This wonderful truth has never failed me. While the physical healings have been wonderful, they do not compare with the great spiritual uplift that I have received through the study of this wonderful Science.
Many blessings have come to me since I started to seek the kingdom of God. I have had the blessing of membership in The Mother Church, as well as in a branch church, the great privilege of teaching in the Sunday school, and of other church activities. My one desire is to gain more understanding of the truth and to live it, that thereby I may be better able to continue helping others as I have been helped, that they may find the same unspeakable peace and real joy.
