As Mind is infinite Spirit, the true senses of man must be...

As Mind is infinite Spirit, the true senses of man must be spiritual, and cognizant only of that which expresses the perfect and eternal. In writing of this Mrs. Eddy says on page 503 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "In the universe of Truth, matter is unknown;" and again on page 409, "The real man is spiritual and immortal, but the mortal and imperfect so-called 'children of men' are counterfeits from the beginning, to be laid aside for the pure reality. This mortal is put off, and the new man or real man is put on, in proportion as mortals realize the Science of man and seek the true model." To see that the so-called material universe is but a counterfeit of the spiritual universe, and that the battle between the flesh and the Spirit is but the conflict between the testimony of material sense and the evidence of spiritual sense, is to begin to gain the scientific sense of Christianity revealed by Christ Jesus. He proved himself to be the most scientific man who ever walked this earth, by looking to the spiritual cause of the universe and accepting only the evidence of spiritual sense. Thus he set aside every material law (so called), and revealed the possibility of understanding spiritual law.

God's creation is as real and eternal as Himself. Material creation, which only counterfeits the spiritual, is only the house built on the sand spoken of by Jesus. Matter being opposite in all its qualities to Spirit, cannot in any way originate in God, divine Mind. It cannot, therefore, be looked upon as true or good, and must be classified as evil or error, opposed to good. That is why Christian Science "brackets evil and matter" together. "Time is no part of eternity" (Science and Health, p. 468). It is but a subdivision of mortal thinking. In giving the definition of "day" Mrs. Eddy says: "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there'" (Science and Health, p. 584). All the real senses of man are spiritual and indestructible.
