Any one who is familiar with the teaching and practice of Christian Science knows that the gospel of Christ is its very essence. Christian Scientists constantly endeavor to assimilate this gospel and live it every day. The life and works of Jesus of Nazareth are their continual study and inspiration; and it is to their understanding and demonstration of divine Life that they look for redemption from all the ills "that flesh is heir to." Christian Scientists read and love the Bible. As to the Messiah or Christ, I quote from one of many passages of similar import in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 333): "Christ expresses God's spiritual, eternal nature. The name is synonymous with Messiah, and alludes to the spirituality which is taught, illustrated, and demonstrated in the life of which Christ Jesus was the embodiment."
