The absolute efficiency of scientific, correct thinking,...
The absolute efficiency of scientific, correct thinking, when one takes as a premise divine Mind and its attributes, has been so clearly, so forcibly proved in my family that I joyfully and gratefully offer my "bit," with the hope that it may be the cup of cold water to some struggling mortal.
Born and educated in a faith whose dogmatic and material ceremonials seemed to me the antipodes of the teachings of Christian Science, there was much to be overcome, to be learned or unlearned, before I felt that I could accept this, to me, new understanding of being. Gradually, after about four years of reading, of studying, of deep and earnest thinking, the many questions were answered to the very last one; the obstacles melted away into their nothingness; the bridges burned behind me, as it were; and I stood ready for the test which suddenly came to me.
My older boy, about seven years of age, was affected with infantile paralysis in what doctors considered the most virulent form,—a seemingly complete paralysis of all the limbs, affecting even the head and the voice. Lovingly and kindly my husband, who had been in Christian Science for several years, said to me: "What are you going to do? It is for you to decide; you are the mother. Will you have medical attention, or would you like Christian Science help?" Instantly the words, "Now is the time," came to me like a revelation; and I answered without a moment's hesitation, "We will have a practitioner." The healing was made; and to-day that boy rides a wheel, swims, climbs trees, and is rosy and well.
