The Lectures

Richmond, England (First Church).—In introducing a Christian Science lecturer, Mr. F. J. Harvey said:—

Our Master said: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Students of Christian Science humbly and gratefully acknowledge that the revelation of Truth is here to-day in Christian Science; and through its teachings they have been enabled to demonstrate in some measure, individually, the promised freedom. It is through demonstration that Christian Science is proved to be the Comforter which should lead into all truth.

Christian Science has saved my life from one of restless casting around to know the why and the wherefore of the impressions forced upon me by my environment, and also from the fear of illness and its effects. It has given me a reason for my being. It has steadily improved my condition in every way. Once Christian Science was put to a severe test in my experience. I was taken suddenly seriously ill during an epidemic, and to allay the fears of friends the doctor was called in, who after an examination said he could do nothing, as the case was hopeless, beyond him. However, hearing that Christian Science treatment was going to be persisted in, in spite of his expressed fears and helplessness, he surprised and encouraged us by saying, "Stick to him then and he will pull through." Does not such an instance show how Christian Science is, on its merits, commending itself? It is commanding respect and attention because it heals, and those working with theories unlike the Christ-method of healing are surely recognizing this. My case is only one out of many.
