I would like to tell of a very slow healing, hoping it may help some one to cling steadfastly to the truth, even though a physical ailment seems to yield slowly. It is nearly ten years since I began to study Christian Science, after having tried almost every remedy doctors had to offer, also taking the mineral waters and baths at Bath, England, for three months.

When I took up the study my hands and feet were deformed, stiff, and crippled with inflammatory rheumatism. I could not take a step without suffering terribly. I rejoice to say that in a very few weeks I was entirely healed of the pain. One of my arms was straightened, rigid joints relaxed, and I gained health and strength rapidly; but my feet were so twisted and deformed it was impossible for me to wear a shoe in comfort. I tried every make and last on the market. I did not derive one particle of ease or comfort from any of them.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 242), "There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way." I have learned and proved beyond a doubt the truth of this great scientific fact, until I can say with much gratitude and great joy that now I can walk well and with comparative ease and comfort. This healing has been so slow as to be almost imperceptible from day to day. I rejoice, because this experience has taught me that, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 167), "it is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error." This lesson learned, my feet are planted more firmly upon the rock, Christ, Truth. But not until I understood that this alluded not only to a physical trouble, but to every problem which confronted me—whether in the home, in connection with church work, or otherwise—did the complete healing come.
