About twelve years ago, on the invitation of a friend, I attended my first Christian Science service; and well I remember the sweet sense of the divine presence I experienced, and how I felt every difficulty could be overcome, for there was nothing outside of God's allness. Previous to this, one of my eyes had given me considerable discomfort. I could not see to read with it, and had consulted a doctor, who told me it never would be of much use to me. He prescribed the use of eyeglasses to protect, as he said, the good eye from strain.
I began to attend the Christian Science church regularly and to read and study daily the Christian Science Lesson-Sermon, never giving a thought to my eyes. I was just anxious to press on, and to enter more fully into the kingdom of heaven. On page 586 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, we read: "Eyes. Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." This process of seeing things spiritually had been going on, and before I was aware the healing took place. I could read without glasses and could even distinguish figures. During these twelve years Christian Science has helped me in almost every detail of life. I have watched over the bedside of the so-called dying, and through the efficacy of Christian Science treatment have seen them raised to health and happiness.
Quite recently I had the great privilege of class instruction, where the falsity of error was uncovered, without leaving it a foothold to stand on; and the grand reality of God's allness and the perfection of His finished word declared, made my heart rejoice. To say I am grateful for all these healings, and for the sense of freedom that has come into my life through the fuller knowledge of God as Love, hardly expresses all I feel. My desire is to be worthy of the name Christian Scientist, and to be a help to others.
