When Jesus said, "Have faith in God," he was not demanding a blind faith, but a spiritual understanding of and a whole-hearted, constant reliance upon the omnipotent, omnipresent God, good. He proved that this kind of faith destroys sin and disease, and overcomes death. Spiritual understanding is the only true remedy for all of earth's ills; and proportionately as this understanding is gained in this and other countries will it be manifested in honesty and justice, and in mutual consideration by employers and employees. The government itself needs more faith in God. The time is assuredly approaching when the electors will see that those who are chosen to represent them are primarily those who have more faith in God and His means than in politics. A government composed of members thus qualified would make laws based as far as possible on the Sermon on the Mount, and encourage its subjects to learn how to govern themselves. In the words of Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 106), "Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love."
