As I have been helped so many times by reading the testimonies of others, I feel it my duty as well as a privilege to tell of some of the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. I had suffered for many years from a serious internal trouble, there being a displacement which caused me constant suffering and pain. A great deal of the time it was impossible for me to be on my feet. I was constantly under the doctor's care for more than six years, and a great deal of the time for two or three years before that. Several doctors tried all kinds of treatments, but there was no permanent benefit. Besides this I suffered from a serious heart trouble. I would sink away almost into unconsciousness. Many times it seemed that I could not possibly live through the attacks, and they would leave me in a weak and helpless condition. I also suffered from periodical attacks of headache during which I could hardly lift my head off my pillow for several days at a time, and would only get over one siege when another would come on. I was under the influence of drugs most of the time, and it seemed that almost every organ of my body was affected in some way. I was gradually growing weaker and getting more helpless, until as a last resort my attending physician advised us to consult a specialist. He said that medicine would not do me any good and that he was sure that I would never be any better unless I would undergo an operation. The doctors had thought for some time that an operation might help me, but would not advise it on account of the heart trouble.

On the first day of September, 1915, my husband and sister took me to a hospital in Chicago for an examination. After making a thorough examination, followed by two weeks' treatment, the specialist very kindly told us that there was no use staying there any longer, that the operation could not be performed then as it would not be safe to give me ether. He told them to take me home until I got stronger, and then to come back.

About three weeks after returning home a dear neighbor came to our house and told us about Christian Science. She offered to lend us her copy of Science and Health. We did not know anything about Christian Science and had never heard of the textbook. At first I thought that it could not help me, but after thinking about it for a few days I decided that I would like to try it. I asked my sister to go and borrow the book for me. As I could not read more than a few minutes at a time, she read to me a great deal and I began to get a little stronger right away. A little improvement could be seen the first day, and such a feeling of peace came to me that I thought, This surely is the way Jesus healed the people when he was here on earth. I was soon able to sit up and with assistance take a few steps. After reading about two weeks we called a practitioner and she lovingly began treatment for me. I felt much better after the second treatment, walked around in the house that evening, and next morning dressed myself, something I had not done for a long time. After dinner I told my husband that I would like to go outdoors, so he took me out in the yard for a few minutes. We could see so much improvement each day. I commenced helping with the housework the fourth day and in just one week's treatment was completely healed. At the end of that time I walked one block and climbed a flight of stairs to visit some relatives, then walked home again, and without any ill effects. I knew I was perfectly healed and that God had healed me. Words cannot express my happiness, for it was so wonderful to me and my heart overflowed with gratitude. Since that time many discordant conditions have been overcome. Divine Love has met every need in our home; my husband and I have both had many healings and we have been very thankful for every one. Each experience has been added proof to us that God is ever present and that He is all-power.
