Having received so much good and happiness since I became...
Having received so much good and happiness since I became interested in Christian Science, I wish to send in my testimony. A little over four years ago I was a restless, discontented, unhappy woman. I had left the church of which I was a member because I made up my mind I could not pray to a God I did not know or love. Shortly after this my husband came home with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which a friend had lent him, and he asked me to look it over as it looked good to him. The book was in the house for about six months. I tried to understand it, but did not seem to get very far with it, until one day I was taken with a severe cold and a gathering in my head. The doctor came two and sometimes three times a day, but I could get no relief from the terrible pain in my head. I then decided to call a Christian Scientist and ask for help, which I did. The practitioner was with me for about one hour when I got up from my bed, and I had supper ready for my husband when he came home. Since then God has answered all my prayers, as I had discovered I was praying to a God of love. We have not had a doctor since, for any kind of sickness; in fact, have had very little. As soon as anything does try to manifest itself as disease, it is met and destroyed at once.
My son took up the study about the same time I did. He was nineteen years old, and when the war came enterd the service as a radio man. His ship was sunk in mid-ocean, and I feel certain that the understanding he had of Christian Science was what saved the crew. As the ship was going down he took his Christian Science textbook and laid it on the table beside him. Reminded of the truth it contained, he said all fear left him. He sent a radio message out that brought a ship to them, and all on board were saved. They just had time to take to the lifeboats and get on to the other ship when their ship went down. My son did not have a Quarterly, but when he boarded this other ship some one saw him with his little book in his hand and came and handed him a Quarterly. How can I tell you how grateful I am? During the war Christian Science taught me what the ninety-first psalm means to all of us. I knew that God was with those on the water as with those on the land. My son and I are both members of The Mother Church and I have two more children who expect to join.
Words cannot express my guatitude and love to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mrs. Eddy for making the word of God so spiritually plain.
