Among the Churches

Current Notes

Racine, Wis.—The excavating work for First Church of Christ, Scientist, which will be erected at the corner of Ninth Street and College Avenue, has been started. The building will cost sixty thousand dollars. On the ground floor will be a large auditorium and the basement will be occupied by parlors and Sunday school rooms.—Racine Call.

Salem, Ohio.—Property for the construction of a Christian Science church was purchased Monday afternoon [Dec. 1] by the trustees of the Christian Science Society. The new structure is to be located at the corner of East Green Street and Garfield Avenue. The lot has a frontage of 100 feet on Garfield Avenue and 80 feet on Green Street. It is understood that the property was purchased for thirtyfive hundred dollars and that five hundred dollars was paid to to hold the deal.—Salem New.

Malden, Mass.—Workmen began this week [Dec.1] the construction of a new home for members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, which will be erected in Malden, at the corner of Main and Spring Streets. The structure will be of terra cotta, with a frontage of 70 feet, which faces Main Street, and a depth of 97 feet to the rear. The basement will contain a large Sunday school room. The structure will cost fifty-five thousand dollars and will seat a congregation of five hundred.—Boston Post.

White Plains, N. Y.—Construction work on the addition to the Christian Science church located on Maple Avenue will be started immediately, according to plans formulated at a church meeting held last evening [Dce. 1]. This second unit will be taken up almost entirely by a splendid auditorium to face on Mamaroneck Avenue. It is expected that the cost will exceed fifty thousand dollars. The first unit of the church was completed in the late winter of 1916, and since that time the congregation has grown so rapidly that the seating capacity of the church has been seriously taxed at Sunday services. The lack of space finally brought about the meeting which was held last night.

White Plains Record.

Liverpool, England.—First Church of Christ, Scientist, recently purchased a small, well built, modern church, capable of seating five hundred people, which is situated at the corner of Heathfield and Smithdown Roads. The purchase of this church, and the consequent removal from the old premises at 27 Leece Street, has been necessitated by the steady growth of the Christian Science movement in Liverpool.—The Liverpool Courier.
