Waukon (Iowa) Republican

The following news item appeared in a recent issue of the Postville Herald: "Sheriff—accompanied Miss—to the hospital at Independence last Thursday. Her home was formerly Harpers Ferry. The young lady is about twenty-eight years of age, and delving too deeply into the theories of Christian Science is accredited with causing her present regrettable condition, says the Waukon Republican."

Thorough and painstaking investigation into the statement made in the foregoing news item has developed the fact that the cause given for "her present regrettable condition" is a mistake. The young lady came into contact with a spiritualist in Dubuque, and it was the opinion of two of her brothers who live there that this was unfortunate for her under her existing mental condition, for she had manifested a worried and downhearted disposition for some time. The entire family thought that Christian Science and Spiritualism were the same thing. This apparently accounts for the newspaper article. A clear explanation was made of the fact that Christian Science has absolutely nothing in common with Spiritualism, mesmerism, or hypnotism, and never has had, for it is the pure and simple religion preached and practiced by Jesus the Christ. Matters then became clearer and all admitted they had been mistaken.
