Christian Science came to me, as to many others, at a time of great need. My wife and I, accompanied by our daughter, had crossed two continents in search of health and fortune. My wife was like the woman who "had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." Personally, I am afraid I was a little bitter with the experience of it all and had almost reached the point where I wondered whether life was worth living. It was at this time that Christian Science was mentioned to me, and a copy of the textbook was lent me by a friend. The grain of truth which came to my consciousness was so welcome that I prayed earnestly that if this teaching was the truth I might receive its blessings. I am glad to say that my prayer has been and is being answered daily. Christian Science has enabled us to get a fresh grip on life. It has made life more worth living; in fact, we can truthfully say that we did not seem really to live until we learned how through Christian Science.

One of the things that puzzled me when I first began this new study was the large number of testimonies which told of healing that had resulted from the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. It was not long, however, before I had this experience myself. I had an attack of influenza just as I had been successful in obtaining a position for which I had been waiting three years. These attacks came regularly every year and were usually severe. I felt very much discouraged that it should have come at a time when it was absolutely necessary that I should be at my new post. Then the thought came to me: Why not try this Science? Why not put it to the test? I asked my wife to bring me the textbook, and after quietly reading for about half an hour I found myself completely healed. I was able to join my family at dinner and go back to my new work the next morning. The healing was permanent.

One more experience I would like to offer. For many years I had suffered from distressing headaches, and I rarely went through a week without one. I would retire at night feeling as "fit as a fiddle;" in the morning I would be prostrated. About two years ago I was elected to a position in our church which made it imperative to be at every service. After the first thought of gratitude for this great privilege, I wondered how I was going to be rid of the problem which had so long troubled me. Then I remembered how much I had been blessed in many ways since coming into Christian Science and I felt confident that as God had called me to this work, He would give me the needed grace and help for it. I am happy to say that not once has it been necessary for me to be absent from my post and the ailment has been entirely overcome.
