Many persons have borne convincing proof that healing is effected by the understanding of divine Principle, as taught in Christian Science. I gratefully acknowledge myself as one of that number, having been healed of a chronic disease in January, 1913. Since that time no material remedy has been used, and there has been no return of the trouble.

A few facts which led to this healing may be of interest. Some years ago a Christian Science reading rooms was opened near my place of employment. I visited it two or three times, partly out of curiosity, and partly because it offered a place of rest during the noon hour. In rather an indifferent manner I looked over the literature, but felt no interest in it. Not long afterwards the reading room was moved to another building not far away, and the same purpose led me to the new room. Somewhat as a matter of courtesy, in return for the privilege of resting there, I began to read the Bible, but lack of interest, and prejudice as well, kept me from reading the Christian Science literature.

I continued to pass a few moments of each noon hour in this manner, and while doing so I observed one thing which I believed must have a significance unknown to me. It had not seemed strange to find women frequenting such a place; what did seem remarkable was the fact that so many business men with apparently about ten minutes to spare, pored over those books as though they were searching for something on which their lives depended. This done, away they would go, and the next day found them doing the same thing. I thought that if those men were getting anything which did them good I would try it myself. I began to look into the Quarterly, and each day I followed its direction in reading the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in connection with the Bible. Sometimes I realized a beneficial result, but more often I was depressed because I seemed unable to understand much that I read. However serene my thoughts became while reading, I returned to the daily routine with the same tangled and often unrighteous thoughts.
