Among the Churches

Rochester, N. Y.—A large group of members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, are taking steps to form a new congregation in this city which will be known as Second Church of Christ, Scientist. Where the church will be situated the committees do not yet know. It may be in almost any part of the city, excepting south of Main Street on the East Side, as the present building is in this section, at East Avenue and Prince Street. The idea is not only to relieve the congestion of this building but to accommodate members of the congregation who do not live in this part of the city.

It is not three years since the Christian Scientists moved from their former building at Alexander and Cobb Streets to the present edifice, completed in December, 1916. The seating capacity of the old church was five hundred and sixteen, that of the new is twelve hundred. The congregation is so large that at many services people are obliged to stand, and two sessions of the Sunday school are held to accommodate all the attendants.—Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Brazil, Ind.—Ground was staked off to-day [July 18] for the edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, which is to be erected on the lot recently purchased from the Episcopal Church opposite the Public Library on North Walnut Street. The new church will be a one-story structure, built of brick in colonial style with an attractive front porch and massive columns. The building will have a frontage of thirty-two feet and a depth of seventy-two feet. The cost will be about ten thousand dollars.—Brazil News.
