With deepest gratitude for Christian Science I wish to relate some of the blessings received therefrom. Once my dear mother was, according to sense testimony, very sick. For several weeks she was confined to bed and could not take any nourishment except a little milk. She was so weak that she could only with difficulty speak or swallow. We held steadily to the truth that God is our Life and strength, and she recovered and is now active all day. Last winter she was not one day in bed. Although more than eighty-five years of age she is clear mentally and strong physically.
One evening I was bitten on the hand by an insect. The arm became twice its normal size and felt very heavy. I told no one of this and tried to abolish my fear of blood poisoning by declaring the truth. Other people had suffered severely day and night for weeks from a similar trouble, and in some cases a doctor was compelled to use the knife; but I experienced no pain, only the discomfort due to the abnormal swelling. I was able to do all the housework, and on the third day, while busily engaged in declaring the truth for some one else, I knew I was healed, although to all appearances conditions were not very favorable, as the arm and hand were covered with blisters. These however soon disappeared. Thanks to Christian Science the trouble was entirely overcome within a few days, and I had learned something from the experience.
Since turning to Christian Science we have had many blessings through its study, and we are grateful to the friends who sometimes lent us a helping hand. When round about us all were sick with influenza, we were protected, and could also help others. Above all we are thankful for learning how better to love our enemies, to help the poor and lift the fallen, to live practical Christianity, as I always wished. We thank God every day for Christian Science and for sending that noble woman, Mrs. Eddy, with the good news for all men.
