Christian Science teaching is based on the first chapter...
Miami (Fla.) Metropolis
Christian Science teaching is based on the first chapter of Genesis, and in this chapter it is plainly stated that man was made in the image and likeness of God, who is Spirit. Centuries later the beloved disciple John wrote, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." And then, as though he wanted to assure us that we need not be discouraged because we have believed that we were mere mortals, in the next sentence he says, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God"—not some time after the change called death, but "now." John also says, "Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." This sonship, fellowship, intercourse, or communion of which John so beautifully speaks is really the basis of thought and demonstration in Christian Science—perfect God and perfect man. The scientific right thought concerning the spiritual man and his relationship to the Father, when correctly applied, results in the healing of the sick and the sinful.
The Christian Science church is the only church that obeys the Master's command to preach the gospel and heal the sick. The healing is really the divine attestation of the correctness of the preaching. It is therefore not to be classed with New Thought or Theosophy, as a certain speaker has lately done, but rather stands in a class by itself, as a majority of its membership, who have been healed through Christian Science treatment or through the study of the textbook, will confirm.
On the other hand, scholastic theology, adhering to the dust-man theory, continues to tramp around in the same circile it has trod for centuries. The Christian Scientist does not brush aside sin and ignore it, but is constantly at work destroying sin in all its forms. He knows that just so long as a mortal sins he is sure to suffer.
