It is about five years and a half since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was a helpless invalid, suffering from what is known as rheumatoid arthritis. I had been a great sufferer for ten years, although every possible material means of relief had been tried. Five doctors told me I was incurable. I gradually got worse until I could do nothing for myself and had to be dressed like a child.
Christian Science was brought to my notice by a friend, and after reading some of the literature I felt that I would like to try it, but there was a severe struggle while trying to decide whether to do that or to have electrical treatment, as my family wanted me to do. I prayed for guidance and there came to thought the passage in Luke, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." There and then I decided to take up the study of Christian Science and that God would be my healer. The excessive pain went instantaneously. I still thought the stiffness would be a long time going, but as I gained in understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him, through reading the textbook and with the help of Christian Science friends, before long I was able to be up and around. Now I can do anything about the house, and walk wherever I want to go. I can get up at six o'clock in the morning and work all day without feeling tired.
Christian Science has been my only physician since my healing. I was instantaneously healed of bowel trouble. At the time I heard of this teaching I had been wearing a belt three years for a rupture, but I have not had it on for five years. For all these blessings I am more than thankful to God and grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who gave it to the world. Christian Science brings a wonderful sense of peace into one's life. I am a better wife and mother, for it takes all burdensome care away and teaches us there is only one Father-Mother God.
