A Just Peace

AGNES CHALMERS

The land our father Abraham hath sought,
Each nation equally shall give and share.
Each nation shall go forth, and wisely taught
Of God find Mind's true country everywhere.
Earth's league of nations, too, shall see that naught
Save God's just law shall rule the mighty wave;
The sea shall be protected with the care
Of Mind's sustaining love to bless and save.

Truth, monarch of the earth, shall own full sway
Of government. Each debt shall then be paid,
Since all shall have abundant love to pay.
Each nation shall be recompensed with might
Of meekness hid with Christ. Life's table laid
With wondrous feast is ready,—yea, the right
Of sharing with all men the wine and bread
Of peace. Truth's table now is spread.

Each nation shall rebuild for all a land
Of wondrous plenty; yet no human hand
Shall toil in building that which cannot be
Destroyed or marred throughout eternity.
A standing army of nor race nor creed
Shall comfort, bless, and heal eternally.
The love of Truth shall meet each human need.
Each nation shall rebuild a land of good—
Love's home and church for all earth's brotherhood,—
This is the peace to which Christ points the way.
