Nearly ten years have elapsed since my healing through...
Nearly ten years have elapsed since my healing through Christian Science of a physical condition which is generally accepted by material sense as incurable. After having passed over thirty years in bondage to what was called an hereditary disease, which finally culminated in an extreme manifestation of so-called quick consumption with all its accompaniments, my attention was drawn to Christian Science by a dear friend, who assured me that there was help for me through the understanding of divine Love, which makes men free. A practitioner was asked to treat me and my recovery was rapid, all symptoms disappearing in a very short time; indeed with the first treatment my condition was changed from that of depression and fear to joy and hope. I was also healed of the habit of using tobacco, which had been with me since childhood and to which I was a slave, and have been freed from worry and nervousness which at times seemed almost unbearable. Surely I have realized to a great extent, as a result of the study of Christian Science, the fulfillmewnt of that promise in John's gospel, "If ye continue in my word, ... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I have proved in my own experience our dear Leader's words in her book "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 34), "A person healed by Christian Science is not only healed of his disease, but he is advanced morally and spiritually."
I wish to express my deep sense of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her tireless labors and her great achievement in again presenting to the world the truth manifested in the words and works of Jesus, who said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." I am grateful for the opportunity I have had of serving as First Readr, also thankful that my wife and my sister and her family are now interested workers in Christian Science.
