Before I knew anything of Christian Science, happiness and health were unkown to me. I have been healed of many diseases; but it is not alone the physical healing for which I am grateful, it is the spiritual uplift and the understanding of God as divine Love, an ever present help in time of trouble.

One experience for which I am indeed grateful occurred in January, 1918. We live in a natural gas region, and when the pressure on the wells is low a crude gasoline forms which flows into the mains. During a severe cold spell the man in charge of the drips placed to catch the gasoline neglected to empty them and our service pipe received the overflow, filling the pipes in the house. We had them emptied, but just as they were all cleaned the gasoline was forced from the pump station with such pressure as to loosen the joints in the chanderliers on the first floor, causing the gasoline to drip from them. These were fixed, and about an hour later I went to the dining room to light the gas, but as I turned it on a stream of gasoline in flame flowed over me. All through the experience I declared God's protection. I immediately shut off the gasoline and stood perfectly still, without a thought of fear. When the gasoline was burned off I wiped my hands down over my clothing so it did not catch fire and put out the flame on the floor. There was no one else in or near the house, and had it not been for my understanding of God's protection, I feel sure the result would have been very different. Two small holes were all that were burned in my clothing.

I have had nuemrous proofs God's care and lovingkindness and have overcome many difficulties. I am grateful for each milepost passed and joyful at nearing another. I am indeed thankful to God and grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs.Eddy, who was so pure, courageous, and unselfish; also for our helpful literature, which supplies our daily manna, and to all the Christian Scientists who have given me assistance.
