Christian Science came into my life about fourteen years...
Christian Science came into my life about fourteen years ago when I was seeking an answer to the question "Why?" that was always uppermost in my thought. All my life I had been placed in circumstances for which I was not responsible, and over which I had no control. Hoping to find an answer to this question I joined an orthodox church, only to be bitterly disappointed. Shortly after, Christian Science was presented to me and suddenly lifted me out of my environment and also out of the thought that had seemed to hold me there, and gave me a true sense of happiness, the first I had ever known.
In the years that have followed, my blessings have been many. We have six children, none of whom have ever tasted medicine. They are healthy and happy, able to work out most of their problems themselves, which relieves me of that sense of fear and responsibility that need not be a part of every mother's life. At one time my little girl, aged six, fell and hurt her arm. I did not know whether the bone was broken or dislocated, but it hung limp and she could not move it. I treated her that night and next day and she suffered no pain at all. The second night after putting her to bed I heard a noise like the report of a gun, and on going to her found that the bone had snapped back into place. She had no further trouble. Another little girl, aged three, ran her arm through a glass door, cutting it very badly. I treated her and she slept well all night. The second day the belief of blood poisoning had to be overcome. This was done in two days, and the healing went on until at the end of five weeks the arm was perfectly healed.
All of these demonstration and more have been brought about solely through the understanding of Christian Science, for a doctor has never been in our home. For all of these benefits and many others,—for the privilege of class instruction, which was the sweetest experience that ever came into my life,—and above all for the joy of helping others, I am sincerely grateful.
