For the many benefits received through Christian Science...
For the many benefits received through Christian Science during my service with the Australian forces I am indeed thankful. Many times when in places of danger I was strengthened and comforted by a verse from the Bible, or by a quotation from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Daily I repeated the ninety-first psalm, and also the "scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of our textbook, with its correlative Scripture from I John. It was very beautiful how I was enabled to study the Lesson-Sermon almost daily, either in or out of the trenches. Rheumatism, colds, and other minor troubles were quickly overcome by holding to the truth. On one occasion while under shell fire the verse, "There shall not an hair of your head perish," restored confidence. Christian Science helped me to have absolute assurance that I should come back as I left. I consider that by holding to Love as all and destroying any sense of hate as it appeared, also by striving to realize spiritual man's inviolability, I was preserved many times.
The way in which the Christian Science literature turned up was certainly wonderful. I always received mine no matter where we were. The Christian Science Monitor was very useful in giving authentic information, and the Home Forum page was appreciated. The Christian Science Sentinel was wonderfully illuminating on many problems. We indeed owe a great debt to Mrs. Eddy for this healing truth. I desire to express my appreciation of the way in which the Publishing Society performed its work during the stress of war. The small edition of Science and Health and of the Quarterly met a decided need, and the selection of hymns in the small hymnal is very choice. I thank God for Christian Science and hope with joy to point the way to others when practical.
