I have been healed of several afflictions through the earnest...
I have been healed of several afflictions through the earnest study and application of Christian Science, and the aid of a kind practitioner,—organic and stomach trouble, rheumatism, and enlarged joints of my hands and feet. Soft corns, also, have disappeared.
A dear friend who heard I was suffering with stomach trouble brought me some literature, and told me she had been cured in one treatment of the same disease, and that her daughter was healed of a throat trouble in one absent treatment. She said she did not know much about Christian Science, but had begun its study and knew it would help me, if I would try it. I read some of the literature, but did not seem to get any understanding, so I went to a practitioner. The first treatment gave me instantaneous relief. She also guided me to the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I studied this book all the spare time I had, and knew that if I could put the teaching therein into practice, I would be healed. I went back to the practitioner the same week in order to express my gratitude for her work already done, and had another treatment with the result that I was greatly helped both mentally and physically. I continued the study of Science and Health, and at the end of three weeks was completely healed of stomach trouble of six years' standing. I felt so grateful for this healing that I asked for no other relief, but took up the study of the Lesson-Sermons, attended church regularly and with a sincere desire to gain a better understanding of this great truth which had healed me, and earnestly prayed for more light.
A desire came to me to give to others of what I had received both in spiritual and material ways. Channels opened. Wherever I saw need, in church and outside, I tried to do my best. I also learned that I must study where and when to cast my bread upon the waters. To say little and do more, always gave the best results.
No special notice was taken of time, until I found myself in perfect health. Looking back to the beginning of my study, three months had passed. In the meantime I had smaller difficulties to overcome, such as colds, deafness, pleurisy, burns, all of which disappeared through my own work in Christian Science. When the symptoms appeared I held fast to Truth; no material remedy was used from the first. I find never to say I am sick, not even to myself, is a very great help to destroy discord of every kind. Fifteen months ago, however, with a cold came bronchitis, which I was not able to overcome, and I asked for help and was healed in one absent treatment. There has been no return of this trouble. My eyes are much stronger than in former years. I have also been greatly helped mentally and financially.
The church service gives much needed food, and the testimonies are a great help; I therefore give mine with the hope it may encourage others. Often I have applied to my own case the truth expressed in testimonies. One in particular I would like to mention as it gave me great help. It was given in our church by a gentleman who had been bothered with mice in his office. He quoted from the ninety-first psalm, "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." Through the understanding of this Scripture gained through the light which Christian Science throws upon the Bible, the mice, or plague, disappeared. I applied this testimony to my own case, for there were gophers in our yard. Not one plant, flower, or vegetable has been destroyed since this demonstration took place about fifteen months ago, and it proved to me that God does give man dominion over all the earth.
These blessings are but a few of the many which have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. I began this study in March, 1916. My heart is filled with thankfulness to God and to our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, also with gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her wonderful work to mankind. I am very grateful to the church, to the dear friends who helped me, and to those who first brought me the literature. My daily prayer is that I may grow in grace and get a better understanding of Christian Science, and do the will of our Father-Mother God.—(Mrs.) E. W. Miller, San Francisco, Cal.
