Christian Science has been a great blessing to me

Christian Science has been a great blessing to me. I feel that I must acknowledge my indebtedness to God and to our Leader for the light of Truth which has cured me of many ills. I was a regular attendant at church, but though I did my best to worship God I never found any comfort in my religion and had to force myself to go to church. I had heard sermons preached against Christian Science and regarded it as deadly heresy, though I knew nothing whatever about it.

I had endured much suffering for years, and was constantly treated by doctors from whom I received much kindness, but my relief from pain was never more than temporary. For about six years I had suffered from "hives" and each year brought greater pain and discomfort. Our family doctor told me there was no cure for this trouble, and I would have to endure it for the rest of my life, so I looked with dread into the future. For three years I suffered constantly from catarrh. The back of my nose had been burned several times, and I used material means daily, but continued to suffer. Whenever the slightest bit tired I had intense pain in the right side, the result of an operation years before, which left the muscles weak. I spent many sleepless nights because of this, and the little sleep I did get was restless and unrefreshing. I suffered constantly from headache and backache. I was studying hard, attending lectures, and working in an art school, and the pain in my head day and night made the effort to think an agony. Our family doctor, other doctors, and many specialists were consulted, but none afforded me any relief. Of all these ailments I was cured by Christian Science.

In April, 1914, I attended a Christian Science lecture in Richmond, Surrey. I went in order to take two people who were very anxious to hear the lecture, but who did not know the way to the hall. In a spirit of hostile resentment I criticized all I heard. A fortnight later, however, I asked my mother to agree to my having Christian Science treatment, saying it could not do me any harm, and might do me good. My mother wrote to a Christian Science acquaintance and asked for the address of a practitioner. An appointment was made, and on the twentieth of April, 1914, I had my first treatment. A wonderful peace entered my consciousness, and the physical healing was soon complete. I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and felt great joy when I read of a God who is Love. The practitioner who helped me did so very lovingly, and her definite assurance that God was with me lifted fear and worry from my life. Two boils, an abscess in the mouth, and several other minor complaints have also been overcome.
