I have been a student of Christian Science more than a few years, and so numerous have been the proofs of the healing power of Truth that space and words are inadequate to tell of them, and memory could not recall them all. I know that healing does not always mean the overcoming of physical illness; fortunately I have had few experiences of that kind since taking up the study of this teaching. In the few instances when help has been needed to overcome physical ailments I have found Christian Science effectual. At one time I stepped off the upper step of a long flight of stairs leading into the cellar of my home, but the assurance of the omnipresence of God was with me. I was saved from any serious effects, although my family insisted on having a doctor called to examine me. I had struck on my face and that showed the only mark, being so bruised and my eyes so blackened that the doctor feared my eyesight was injured. He said that by the following day I would probably be in a worse condition, but thanks to the power of God, divine Love, and to my understanding of Christian Science, the next day found me as well as ever. By the end of three days no trace of the injury was left. No material remedy was used.

A few years ago, when visiting in Dallas, Texas, I attended the Sunday morning service at the Christian Science church as usual, but in the act of boarding a street car after the service I stepped directly in front of a passing automobile. The driver sounded the horn and I heard it but did not look toward it, feeling sure there was plenty of room for him to pass behind me if I moved quickly; however, the next thing I realized was that I was being carried along on the ground. Instantly the thought came that this might be the end of my existence here, yet with it came the realization of God's presence with me and that no harm could come to me; consequently there was no sense of fear. The automobile was stopped and I was raised to my feet by the driver, and others who witnessed the fall came to my assistance. The first words I spoke were, "I am not hurt; I am all right." I shall never forget the expression on that man's face when he looked into mine and said, "Can you really say that you are all right?" I replied that I was. The gratitude which I felt was beyond words, and immediately the beautiful promise in the ninety-first psalm came to me: "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Surely I was kept from serious harm by realizing that God is divine Love. A lady said later that it seemed impossible that I would be saved. I gave my testimony at the next Wednesday evening meeting, gladly expressing my gratitude; yet deep gratitude is continuous and can be proved only by daily living in an earnest endeavor to follow our Wayshower. Our Lesson-Sermon entitled, "God the Preserver of Man," brings to me a fuller sense of what that means, each time I study it.
